Here is the full text of the email I sent to CNNGeneralComments@turner.com demanding an on-air apology.
Well, I have to hand it to you, CNN. I’ve watched you descend into the cesspool of tacky, unprofessional twaddle that passes for American journalism these days, and I thought you couldn’t possibly get any lower. Then I watched Poppy Harlow rhapsodizing over those two rapists in Steubenville, Ohio (still trying to get in good with the popular boys, Poppy? — most of us outgrew that in junior high), and I realized I was mistaken. This is a new low, even for you. To add insult to injury, you then had your so-called legal commentator ooze sympathy all over them because they might possibly be labeled as sex offenders. Well, I have some news for you. This may come as a shock, so I hope you’re sitting down. They ARE sex offenders. They labeled themselves as sex offenders by committing … well, you know … a sex offense.
Meanwhile, the real news — like the insultingly light sentence the judge handed down — was completely overlooked.
You owe the girl in this case an on-air and very public apology. In fact, you owe every woman who has ever been raped an apology. Heaping praise on a couple of criminals who have ruined a young girl’s life is despicable beyond all possible description. Frankly, if I had my way, every person who had a hand in your shoddy pro-rape coverage of this story would be fired immediately. There is no excuse for this. None.
We’re waiting for that apology.
